I’m going to be truly honest here, when I was first asked to design an outer space themed room I wanted to run for the hills. How in the world was I going to make this not tacky!? Finding these constellation wall decals was my saving grace and actually got me excited about the design. You don’t even want to know what I originally had pictured in my head! Insert screaming face emoji here. And we won’t even talk about one of the boy’s mention of a black hole.

After I was given the OK to go with a green outer space, I was a happy camper (or astronaut) and got to work! Keep in mind that my allowances were under the control of seven and eight year old boys. Luckily they were pretty open minded and just really wanted constellations. So that’s what they would get!

I couldn’t be happier with how everything turned out! They already had these wooden twin beds and they worked perfectly with my black and brown design mix. I broke up the super dark walls with an all white board and batten halfway up the walls. Paired with this cream and black rug, I just loved the contrast of it all!

I sure do love a challenge and this room was certainly that! If you check out my Instagram feed, you’ll notice that most of my designs are very light and airy. This bold and darker room throws it all for a loop but I think that’s what I love most about it. It’s completely different than my normal and I need more of that.
