Natalie and Emily’s Playroom

The day I found out that our second (and last) baby was going to be a girl, I instantly thought about how girly I could make everything in our house. I didn’t have to worry about keeping things neutral in case we had a boy the second go round. Now that I am the mom to two sweet girls, bring on allll the girly things! I’m pretty sure I put every shade of pink that I could find in this playroom. I didn’t worry about trying to keep the same tones at all. If it was pink, it made the cut!

I’m so in love with how everything turned out! It’s pretty AND functional! It might not look like it but those cabinet doors can hold so many toys, puzzles, coloring books, etc. You name it, it’s in there! Storage in a playroom is a game changer and it has made our lives so much easier to have it.

I just love having this little reading nook for our girls. It’s also where dad and I sit while they play. And since it’s a reading nook, I knew that I wanted to have some sconces for light. We really didn’t want to deal with wiring them for lighting and cords could be dangerous for the baby. So we came across these battery operated sconces from Modern Lantern. Genius! It’s exactly what we needed! Bonus points that they are gorgeous AND named the Emily Sconces ;). We added one on each side and they are perfect! They can be dimmed too which is really nice for reading. They will last for 8 hours on a full charge and are super easy to charge. You just pop the battery pack out and plug them in. So easy and perfect for our playroom!

Did you follow along with our IKEA hack on my Instagram stories? I have it all saved on a highlight and will share it all on my YouTube channel too. We took two of their Havsta Bookshelves and customized them to look like built ins. We also used their Havsta TV Cabinet for the center part and made it into a bench. Looks like they may have stopped making the exact one that we used and changed it into this with glass sliding doors on the front. I still think the glass front unit would work with a slightly different look. Here’s another option that would work too. The cabinets are great quality and we’re really happy with them.

Since this bench functions as a reading nook for the girls and also a place for mom and dad to hang out, it definitely needed a nice cushion. This cushion was made by Patio Lane and it’s just perfect for our playroom! They had so many great fabric options and they were all high performance materials which are great for kid spaces and even outdoors! I chose a Sunbrella fabric in a beautiful shade of pink obviously and the quality is so so good!

My husband reinforced the IKEA TV unit to be able to hold extra weight to be able to function as a bench. He placed steel beams in the cabinet and painted them white to blend in. Now they can hold as much weight as they would need and you don’t notice them at all unless you are down at this level.

We couldn’t have a shoot without Murphy getting in at least one photo! He’s definitely not camera shy and always finds his way into the shot. 🙂

We are so in love with how our playroom turned out and love spending lots of time in here! I’ve linked everything that I can but please let me know if you see anything that I missed!
